Music Lessons

“If children hear fine music and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”

-Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

In my studio, I focus on cultivating musical expression while exemplifying the virtues of perseverance and gratitude. I teach with a blend of traditional and Suzuki methods of pedagogy and use an assortment of scale, etude, technique and repertoire books. I emphasize:

Musicianship: phrasing, intonation, dynamics, tone, and ear-training

Technique: handling the instrument in a natural and effective manner

Music literacy: sight-reading, music theory, and music history

Ms. Suffern is an exceptional musician and educator. She is just the right balance of creative fun, rigor, and inspiration in her lessons. My daughter loves going to her violin lesson and Ms. Suffern brings out the best in her.
